Xi'An World Expo

The last place we visited in Xi'An was the World Horticultural Expo. Most of the expo wasn't that interesting and I hardly saw any plants. There were a couple of highlights however.

This was the main logo for the expo carved from a bush.

There were several other animals carved out of bushes as well.

The animal on the left with the staff is the Monkey King. The Monkey King is one of China's most well known characters. He is from a very famous Chinese novel. The tale goes that he was a monkey born from stone and gained supernatural powers through Taoist practices. Most Americans would know him from the Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie The Forbidden Kingdom.

Attack of the gummy worms!!!

Two kids molesting a fish.

I have no idea what the hell this is supposed to be. The only thing I can think of is that the artist really, really loved Terminator 2!

This goofy little guy was the other symbol to represent the expo. It's suppose to be a walking, talking, pomegranate.

The most interesting thing I saw there was a huge display of sand designs. They made just about everything you could think of!

  1. Im pretty sure the shiny thing is supposed to be a sea dragon...they are actually pretty cool looking. But then again I could be completely wrong. Very cool sand sculptures too.

  2. Umm...you might be right. Andi thought they were roots of a tree. I was never able to find out.
