Shanghai

Shanghai is very large and is divided into two parts by the Huangpu River(Yellow River); Pudong and Puxi. Pudong(meaning east side and where our apartment is) is the younger of the two and is home to almost 5 million Chinese. It is the main area for housing development and big and small businesses. Puxi is the entertainment center of Shanghai with many clubs, bars, restaurants, office buildings and cultural centers. On the Pudong side we saw many office buildings and the Oriental Pearl Tower. On the Puxi side we toured The Bund and took a boat cruise at night so I could see both sides all lit up. The view was amazing!!
Oriental Pearl Tower is 1535 feet high, contains 15 observation levels and is home to a revolving restaurant.

Pictures of Shanghai from two different levels of the Oriental Tower. Notice the haze in the pictures. This is from the pollution and the heat. The temperature can has been around 34 Celsius(93 Fahrenheit) but the humidity is like being in the deep south. You instantly sweat the moment you go outside!

At a certain section of the tower, they have a suspended floor made of glass that you can walk out on and look down. Most people on this level wouldn't walk out here!!
The boat cruise at night was amazing. I can't even begin to imagine how the electric company here survives. Everything is lit up and seems to run all night long. Several of the taller buildings have lights that run from top to bottom showing advertisements. It reminded me of something out of Blade Runner. This section was called The Bund. It is host to banks from all over the world.

International Convention Center

A truly beautiful city!

  1. Amazing Dave! Great pictures, keep them coming when
You can. What is the exchange rate for money over there?

  2. The exchange rate is $6.5 yuen to $1.00. However, everything over here is expensive!! Since most people's salaries are low, it's hard for some to live. Plus, if it's anything American, they jack the price up super high!!
