Returning to Fairbanks

To get out of Coldfoot and back to Fairbanks, we flew.

Our little 10 seat ride home.

The last thing Patsy Cline ever saw??? :P

The next couple of photo's aren't the greatest since I took them out of the airplane window but it shows you a little bit more of Alaska. Above is the Dalton Highway and the pipeline.

On our way back our pilot told us that he had just come back from a small Eskimo village farther up north. The village is allowed by the government to shoot 3 harpoon shots a year hunting for whale. While he was there they had just succeeded in catching one and we're in the process of carving it up. He had taken several photo's and showed them to us on his IPad. Above is the jaw bone of a whale.

Once they are done carving up the whale, they use a bulldozer to push it out into the ocean at low tide allowing fish, sharks, sea gulls, etc. to eat what's left. They hadn't gotten that far yet when the remains attracted polar bears!

As you can see someone was sitting in their dinner.....:P

Sunset at Fairbanks.
