Huaqing Hot Spring

Huaquin Hot Spring was at one time a relaxation destination for Emperor's, officials, and concubines. The springs themselves have about 6'000 years worth of history while the palace surrounding the springs only 3'000 years. The palace was originally built in 711BC during the Western Zhou Dynasty. However, during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong(685-762AD) he spent a great deal of funds making many additions to the hot springs.

At the entrance is a large pond that interweaves throughout the grounds. The pond is home to thousands of koi fish.

Another "marble boat."

However, this one is actually made of marble.

While we were there, some girls were performing a traditional Chinese dance.

I have know idea who these people are but they come with the photo! :P

Emperor Xuanzong was very much in love with one of his concubines Yang Guifei. This is a statue built of her that is at the entrance to the hot spring pools.

The first pool is called the Crabapple Pool and was built in 747AD for Lady Yang. Over time it became known as Concubine's Pool.

The second pool is called Lotus Flower Pool and was built for Emperor Xuanzong's own personal use.

The third pool is called Star Pool and was built in 644AD for a different Emperor; Emperor Taizong.

The last pool is called Shangshi Pool and was built for imperial chiefs and palace officials.
