Coloma CA
This past weekend Andi and I took a trip to a small sleep gold mining section of California. We traveled around to a bunch of small towns that used to have people flock to them in search of gold.
This was the area right next to where we stayed. Very peaceful.
While driving around we discovered an old mining area that had collapsed. You can still see some of it in the water.
In the small town of Auburn, they had a huge statue of a gold miner.
Old hotel and saloon.
We also stumbled upon an old cemetery from the 1800's.
Lot's of families were buried together in the cemetery, most of them not to old when they died.
This women and her child must have died at childbirth because the baby is only named "Infant Davis."
I thought the bottom line on this tombstone was interesting: "Not dead but sleeping here Dead Parents." Weird!
This was the Hawk Family
Nathan was in the Mormon Battalion and Rider of the Californian Star Express. Couldn't find anything online about the Express.
This was the newest tombstone I found in the cemetery. Looks like Henry is riding the Big O'l Rig in the sky.......
Coolest tombstone I found! "Texas Ellen" worked in a house of ill fame!!
